throwing a lifelife

Wow, these guys are by far some of the coolest people I have ever met. Lifeline Recovery is a drug and alcohol rehabilitation centre in Ireland founded by Philip Richardson (left in picture, right- Paul Miller). I had a sincere privilege of producing a film about the work of Lifeline back in January ‘08, highlighting just a few of the outstanding stories that are exports from this place. Young lads are 100% set free from their addictions and dependencies by the power of Jesus in an incredible environment of authentic community. Philip himself was set free from an addiction over 13 years ago and now pours his life into helpigs others find this freedom.

This stuff works. I am humbled by the outpouring of these guys lives - they seemed to have figured out what it means to really give your life away while taking on board the pain and hurts associated with this type of work.

This is the gospel.

a summer of john mayer

I can’t wait to see John Mayer live again this summer. He plays Manchester and then Hyde Park London with Eric Clapton within 3 days of each other and of course I’ll be there to lap it up.

I was chuffed to see the release of a new live DVD too - this will be a treat…

web films from palma

This week I have been working from a studio just outside of Palma, Majorca. A couple of us from The New Black have been working on a bunch of short web films for the fashion end of the kaleidoscope brand. We shot 22 items within the two days asigned to us and had a ton of fun in the process - fashion people are nuts! Evenings were spent eating around some top spots in Palma, one seriously beautiful city.

We fly home tomorrow - some snaps from the hotel room…

kaleidoscope shoot up

I’ve been working on some projects the last few weeks for kaleidoscope, part of the Otto Groups. This has been a challenging and somewhat intense shoot but a fun gig to work on.

I thought this pic was great - I love how you can see the guys arm as he gets nailed lighting the fire in the set!! The smell of burning hair filled the studio!

I never knew how much fun you could have in a Kayak

I’m in that ’summer is just about home’ search mode right now - where can we hit for a break over the coming months amidst the madness of work schedules and other commitments.

I’m a big NO THANKS to so called ’sun holidays’ - I can’t think of anything more pointless than 2 weeks doing the same flippin’ thing day in, day out - I work to hard for that! Nope, for me a break has to mean something - exploration, activity, new people, culture, as in Rome… …I am a big fan of flying west as a general vibe - US and Canada also present a fulfilling destination.

Kayak

So I have been hitting a number of the usual sites to see what is on offer. In so doing I have become a no. 1 fan of Kayak - the google of travel sites so they. I gotta tell ya, its pretty darn hot; it actually seems to be what they suggest - a one stop hub to get the best prices from all the airlines and hotels.

Once you return your results you can customize them with a bunch of controls that adjust results live - a great feature.

Hit the water but stay dry inside Kayak ;)

U2 3D // Incredible Experience

I feel like I went to a stadium gig last Friday, but in the Media Museum of Bradford.

U2 3D is by far the most stunning piece of visual art I have experienced. This is right up my street. The shooting and live mix is superb and post-production integration of motion graphics and animation make this one crazy experience - even the sound design is exceptional with focus thrown on where you are positioned, as if you were an audience member.

I wonder what these sneeky pic would look like with 3D glasses on?

Color-tastica

Some new additions to my home edit set up landed yesterday, an Apple 23″ HD display to work hand-in-hand with my MacBook Pro, together with Final Cut Studio 2. Dispite eating up almost 60gb of space on my Mac, and the 10 hour install, I am absolutely loving it!

Final Cut Studio 2 comes with a new addition to the family, a grading software called Color. I started to read up on this yesterday and after an initial play with some footage for a TV project I’m working on, I think it is gonna rock my post-production world!! I love the ease in which you can apply primary and secondary grades and add colour effects to really develop the dynamic edge of your show - I can’t wait to get stuck in!

Here are some snaps of my makeshift work station…!

launch of +provocation films+

provocation films

@ the start of 2008 i felt the need to push through with an idea that came to me sometime across the summer of 2007. the idea is simple, to create a film production consortium that would lead the production of awareness films for situations and circumstances that desperately need the lid blown off.

each project will pull together a different group of creatives and do’ers to make the production get off the ground and deliver. i am blessed to be in relationship with some truly gifted artists - illustrators, graphic artists, motion designers, musos, film makers… …so some of y’all might be getting a call this year - hold tight!

within the next few weeks i will be having initial meetings with some key people about a incredible project that i will be producing over the next 12 months or so. full details will always be blogged first at provocationfilms.com so please jump over there from time to time for news ‘n noise.
